[ARCHIVED] Freedom Fest Children’s Parade Seeks Entrants

Family marches with sign in Freedom Fest Children's Parade

Spirited youngsters are invited to enter the annual Freedom Fest Children’s Parade. Sponsored by Western Star Vending, Pearle Vision, Yukon, and the Friends of the Library, this popular tradition is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, at Yukon City Park, 2200 S. Holly. This dynamic event is coordinated by the friendly Mabel C. Public Library staff and energetic volunteers. Participation is FREE!

The parade course begins just north of City Splash pool and circles around the sand volleyball court and pavilion. Advance registration is now open at the library, 1200 Lakeshore Drive. Registration forms are available at the library, or you can register online at www.yukonok.gov/FreedomFest. Advance registration closes at 5 p.m. on July 3.  Participants may also register on-site beginning at 10 a.m. on July 4 north of City Splash pool. Parade categories include ages four and under, ages five to eight, ages nine through 12, and group.

Participants should arrive by 10:45 a.m. for check-in and staging. Entrants line up, and the parade begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. The library staff leads the parade in playful costumes inspired by this Summer’s reading program theme: All Together Now.

Parking is available at the Yukon Community Center.

Children are encouraged to wear patriotic costumes and boldly decorate their bikes, tricycles, wagons, pets, or floats with a patriotic or other theme. No gasoline powered All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), please. An inspired description of the child’s parade entry is requested, which is read aloud as each child passes the judge’s stand. Judging the competition are Mayor Shelli Selby, Library Board member and former Librarian Sue Kilmer, and Friends of the Library President, Susie Grimes.  Yukon Chamber Director, Pam Shelton, will emcee the event.

All participants receive a goodie bag, and the top three entries in each category receive an additional award!

The Mabel C. Fry Public Library is proud to be a part of Freedom Fest!  For parade information, contact the library at 405-354-8232 or visit www.mabelcfrypubliclibrary.com.
