Visiting Yukon for the Holidays? Many locals consider Yukon the Christmas Capital of Oklahoma, because there are so many traditions that our city has that make the Holidays just a little more magical. Here is how to celebrate the season like a local.
Run in the Chill Your Cheeks 5K
Yukon kicks off the Christmas Season the Saturday before Thanksgiving with the Chill Your Cheeks 5K. Put on your silliest holiday costume and make your way around the streets of Yukon, finishing amongst the beautiful lights of Christmas in the Park. Catch a performance of “The Nutcracker” by Central Oklahoma Ballet
Central Oklahoma Ballet is located right in the heart of Yukon, and puts on a spectacular performance of the classic ballet, “The Nutcracker,” the first weekend in December. It features both national and international guest artists and even some Yukon locals! For more information and tickets, visit www.centralokballet.org
Do Your Christmas Shopping on Main Street
Yukon’s Main Street, which also happens to be Historic Route 66, turns into a picturesque scene during the holidays. The Yukon 66 Main Street Association plans all kinds of events throughout the season, such as the Czech Christmas Market, Christmas Unwrapped, and Christmas on Main. Take the stress out of your holiday shopping by visiting Main Street and stuffing stockings with gifts that you can’t find anywhere else! Ride the Train at Christmas in the Park
Yukon’s Christmas in the Park is pretty famous. It does, after all, boast 4.5 million lights and over 500 displays. However, many only enjoy the lights from their car. True Christmas in the Park enthusiasts know that the train station is the place to get the full experience. Park in the Oklahoma Parking Lot and make your way to the Santa Express Train station, where you’ll be greeted by Christmas characters and plenty of photo opportunities. Purchase your train ticket and grab some hot cocoa while one of our trains make its way back to the station. Bring a blanket and snuggle up with your loved ones for a memorable ride through our twinkling wonderland!
Attend Sounds of the Season at the Yukon Fine Arts Auditorium
Sounds of the Season, performed by the OKC Philharmonic, is a local favorite. Mid-December, the OKC Phil’s Christmas Show features a talented Broadway star, exciting numbers, and your favorite Christmas carols. For more information, visit www.yukonok.gov/ChristmasinthePark.
