Young Adult Summer Reading Program @ Mabel C. Fry Public Library

Teens are encouraged to rock out at Mabel C. Fry Public Library for the young adult summer reading program, “Libraries Rock!” Students entering grades 6-12 in the fall of 2018 are invited to read for prizes, as well as come to the library to take part in special events offered on Thursday afternoons throughout the summer. This exciting program takes place June 1 through July 31.

Sign-ups for the reading portion of the program begin at 10:00 a.m. on June 1. Registrants receive a “Libraries Rock!”tote bag filled with a reading log, a bookmark, and a free entry to the first prize drawing on June 7. Participants earn entries into the weekly prize drawings for every hour spent reading. Prize winners will be drawn each Thursday in June and July. The more hours participants read, the more prize drawing entries are earned, with incentive prizes given along the way. This summer features a pool party for participants who read 25 or more hours.

Start the summer with flair at the Kick-off Escape Room,on Thursday, June 7. Participants are challenged to a musical-themed escape room to test their talents at cracking codes.

Sign-up for the kick-off escape room is required and can be completed online starting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1. There are five time slots to choose from for the escape room on June 7 between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Register by visiting, calling 354-8232, or coming to the library at 1200 Lakeshore Drive. 

Learn to sing in perfect harmony on Thursday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The performing group Sweet Adelines will present “A Capella Rocks” to ignite your passion for music!

Create unique art on June 21 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. with “Libraries Rock,” a rock painting program.

Take a walk on the wild side when the OKC Zoo brings live animals to demonstrate Animal Acousticson June 28 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. 

Tune in to a musically inclined film on Movie Day,July 5 at 1:00 p.m. Popcorn and drinks will be served. 

Science Museum Oklahoma leads you in a performance of a Science Recital on July 12 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Solve the case of the missing music librarian in the murder mystery Rock ‘N Roll Over dead on July 19 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

End the summer on a high note by showing off your fake singing and air guitar skills during a Lip Synch Battle on July 26 at 1:00 p.m. 

Celebrate a summer of rocking and reading with a Pool Party at City Splash Pool on Tuesday, July 31, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This is a reward just for teen volunteers and participants who read 25 or more hours.

The events for the young adult summer reading program are always popular and well attended. Advance registration for all Thursday programs will begin June 1 at 10:00 a.m. and continue all summer long. Space is limited for all events, so be sure to sign up for the Thursday programs early!
