Volunteer Opportunities for Teens and Adults at the Library
Do you want to help your community? Are you a student entering 8-12th grade in fall 2017, or an adult interested in volunteering? The Mabel C. Fry Public Library is looking for dedicated, friendly people to be summer volunteers who assist with library programs and activities.
“The Library provides many free programs and services for those who live in Yukon and Canadian County,” said volunteer coordinator Mary Dougherty. “Our hardworking volunteers allow us to do more for our community than we could otherwise do.”
Summertime is especially busy at the Library! In addition to the regularly scheduled programs, the library also provides extensive summer reading programs from birth through students entering 12th grade in the fall of 2017. Library volunteers will be preparing and/or assisting with one or more of these programs, as well as performing other library duties.
“We are looking for dedicated and energetic volunteers to work regularly scheduled hours from May through July,” said Dougherty. “However, before prospective adults and teens can be scheduled to volunteer they must complete an application and a training session.”
Applications may be obtained at the library, 1200 Lakeshore Drive, Mondays-Thursdays 9:00am-9:00pm or Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00am-5:00pm. Minors will need a parent or legal guardian’s signature. Applications will need to be returned to the library on or before the training sessions.
Training sessions are Thursday, May 4, from 6:00-8:00pm or Saturday, May 13, from 10am-noon. Parents are encouraged to attend the training with their children so they will know what their children will be expected to do as a volunteer.
The library's summer reading program engages people of all ages through dynamic events designed to promote literacy. Come help us spread the joy of reading and lifelong learning to the community.
