Spirit Sprint, Walk and Roll Supports Yukon Spirit League
Yukon Parks and Recreation, Yukon Friends of the Park and the Yukon Spirit League are happy to announce that the Spirit Sprint, Walk and Roll returns on August 26. Come and support the Yukon Spirit League in a wide variety of family activities.
The event kicks off a campaign to raise $11,000 for J. Calvin Baseball Field. The funds will be used to build additional concrete walkways to make the field more accessible for players and fans. Parks and Recreation would like to thank Vernon Turner, who has already donated his $1,000 Gatorade scholarship as 2017 Athlete of the Year, to the campaign.
The Yukon Spirit League is open to all individuals of all ages with a disability in the metro area. It strives to provide a fun and exciting recreational league that offers baseball, bowling, soccer, basketball, kayaking and a Christmas Party.
Returning this year is the Sprit Sprint 5k. The race is an out and back course in Chisholm Trail Park. The Spirit Sprint 5k course starts in Chisholm Trail Park near the Big Gazebo and begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.
New this year are the Spirit Walk and Roll. These events begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Big Gazebo. These events are open to everyone but designed for families, dogs, strollers and wheelchairs.
Registration fee is $30 until August 26th. Race day registration is available for $40. Register today at raceentry.com, search Spirit Sprint, Walk and Roll or register in person at the Jackie Cooper Gym.
In addition to the Sprint, Walk and Roll, starting at 9:00 a.m. activities are offered for the whole family to enjoy. Listen to live music by Crimson Faith under the gazebo. Crimson Faith is a Christian Progressive Contemporary band from Yukon. The event also has a fire truck and fire house, train rides, a wheelchair obstacle course, moon bounces and a variety of games and contests Wristbands are needed to enjoy all the activities and can be purchased the day of the event for a minimum $5 or more donation.
There will also be food trucks, including snow cones, waffles from the Red Bird Coffee Cart and more!
Yukon Parks and Recreation and Spirit League would like to thank event sponsors: Vernon Turner, Miller Fit, Dr. Richard Johnson, Doyle Chiropractic, Braces U, Red Coyote, True Sky, Yukon Optimist Sports Club, Celerty Prostetics, Bounce Academy, Wal-Mart and Target. Also featured that day will be booths from Yukon Hills Animal Hospital, K-9 University, Canine Companions for Independence and Gold's Gym.
For activity parking, the Freedom Trail lot (2101 S. Holly) will be open at 8:30 a.m., and the Chisholm Trail lot (500 W. Vandament) opens at 8:45 a.m. Runners will use the Von Elm entrance, located at the southeast corner of Chisholm Trail Park. The Von Elm gate will be closed at 7:50 a.m. for the 5K run and opens at 9 after the run concludes.
