Posted by City of Yukon on 05/31/2018

Students entering 1stthrough 5thgrade in the Fall of 2018, come join Mabel C. Fry Public Library for an energetic, come and go, Kick-off Eventfrom 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Tuesday, June 5, as they raise the curtains on the 2018 Summer Reading Program, Libraries Rock!

Prepare to have fun with tons of activities, games, crafts, a collaborative art project, music, and more! Get your face painted, enjoy Batman’s amazing balloon art, and make and take some DIY instruments.  Best of all - you can sign up and collect your own Summer Reading Program bag (goodies and a Chick-fil-A kid’s meal card included) so you can begin your summer reading adventure! No registration is required for the kickoff day program.

Starting June 1 and running through July 31, Mabel C. Fry Public Library offers a dynamic and energetic Children’s Summer Reading Program, open to students entering 1stthrough 5thgrade in the Fall of 2018. The program has two components: first, the reading portion, where participants sign up and log the titles they read, then receive entries for fantastic summer reading prizes, as well as incentives when their reading goals are met. Second, exciting events are offered at the library each Tuesday in June and July for free! Participants can do the reading or the events components, or both. Check out some examples of the prize baskets in the Children’s section of the Library. Drawing winners are announced in early August.

Not only is the Children’s Summer Reading fun and rewarding, it is an effective way for students to stave off the “summer slump”, the weakening of skills hard-earned over the school year. Let’s kick it off loud and rowdy, because Libraries Rock!

The Children’s Summer Reading Program is one of Yukon’s best programs. Optimism, energy and opportunity inspire the best in everything we do.  To learn more about Yukon’s best, visit or call 405-354-8232.
