Posted by City of Yukon on 05/23/2018

Come join Mabel C. Fry Public Library as it raises the curtains on the 2018 Summer Reading Program,Libraries Rock! Starting June 1 and running through July 31, Mabel C. Fry Public Library offers a dynamic and energetic Children’s Summer Reading Program, open to students entering 1stthrough 5thgrade in the Fall of 2018.

The program has two components: first, the reading portion, where participants sign up and log the titles they read, then receive entries for fantastic summer reading prizes, as well as incentives when their reading goals are met. Second, exciting events are offered at the library each Tuesday in June and July for free! Participants can do either the reading or the events components, or both. Check out some examples of the prize baskets in the Children’s section of the Library! Drawing winners will be announced in early August.

Stop by the library beginning at 10:00 am on Friday, June 1, to pick up a Libraries Rock! bag that has everything you need to start your summer reading, plus several other goodies, including a Chick-fil-A free kids meal card! All participants that read at least ten books (or have ten books read to them) are rewarded for their hard work with a reading certificate to place on our “Wall of Fame”, a Sonic coupon, a bookmark for a kid’s meal at Raising Cane’s, and a coupon for Papa Murphy’s. When participants read 20 books, they will win a prize of their choosing, and an all-day pool pass. Participants that read at least 30 books will be awarded a coupon for a free child’s admission to the Water-Zoo Indoor Waterpark in Clinton, OK, as well as an invitation to an end-of-the-summer pool party. Not only is the Children’s Summer Reading fun and rewarding, it is an effective way for students to stave off the “summer slump”, the weakening of skills hard-earned over the school year.
