‘A CAPPELLA ROCKS!’ @ Mabel C. Fry Public Library
Rock and read at Mabel C. Fry Public Library this summer with the Young Adult Summer Reading Program, “Libraries Rock!” Each week features an activity for students entering grades 6 through 12 this fall. On Thursday, June 14, “A Cappella Rocks!” is presented by the OK City Chorus of Sweet Adelines International at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
“A Cappella Rocks!” introduces both male and female students to the American art form of four-part Barbershop harmony. During the program, OK City Chorus shares the history of Barbershop. They also discuss its technical aspects and demonstrate the four parts of Barbershopsinging using the good old standard, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.” It’s amazing how easy it is to catch on and how much fun participants will have trying out this (possibly) new style of harmony!
Registration is required and can be completed online at www.mabelcfrypubliclibrary.comand clicking on “programs,” by calling 354-8232, or by visiting the library at 1200 Lakeshore Drive.
In addition to attending weekly programs, participantscan record the hours they spend reading to earn entries into weekly prize drawings. Two lucky winners are selected each Thursday. Participants do not need to be present to win. Come pick up your free “Libraries Rock!” tote bag and reading log between now and the end of July.
The Young Adult Summer Reading Program is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Sonic, America's Drive-in, and sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.
