Irv Wagner’s Jazz Combo entertains at this week’s free “Concert in the Park”
The Concert in the Park series is in full swing and on July 19th, music mellows out with some great jazz sounds and wonderful entertainment from the ever popular Irv Wagner. Irv, who is a professor of trombone at OU, has traveled all over the world entertaining and is at his best when he plays the trombone with his toes and the spoons at the same time, which shows how down to earth someone of his prominence really is,” laughs Jan Scott, parks and recreation director.
An annual highlight of Irv’s concert is a special solo number by Council member Earline Smaistrala. “Her song selection is always a deep dark secret until she performs”, laughs Scott.
There will be the parks and recreation concession featuring CiCi’s Pizza. Of course there will be lots of cold drinks, cookies and chips. Proceeds from the concessions offset the artists’ fees for the concerts that are FREE to the community.
The following concert on July 26th will feature The Oklahoma Symphonic Band, with several Yukon residents playing in the group. For more information call 350-8937.
