Yukon Public Works Encourages Businesses to Flush Water Lines
Yukon Public Works is encouraging businesses who were closed during Yukon’s “shelter in place” order to flush out all building water lines. Taking this proactive step helps rid the lines of any dormant water that may be contained within the building plumbing. Extended periods of inactivity can lead to contaminants in the water, and taking proper steps can help prevent potential exposure.
An example would include flushing out the hot water lines at each tap for several minutes, then flushing out the cold water lines. Some businesses may even need to drain their water heaters then flush the lines once the heating tank is full again.
Restaurants, in particular, need to flush all of their kitchen lines. These include lines to their sink, dishwasher and other similar appliances that may have a water filter. In some instances, they may also need to empty and refill ice makers and any other appliances that pull water directly from the system.
Guidelines for flushing can vary for each establishment, so it’s best to contact a professional plumber for assistance.
