Yukon Parks and Recreation Revamps Kringle Karnival for Nov. 17

The Kringle Karnival has long been a Christmas tradition for Yukon youngsters, and Yukon Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that it is returning with several NEW additions!

Kick off the Christmas season at the Kringle Karnival on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., now located at the north end of Chisholm Trail Park, 500 W. Vandament. Admission, as always, is FREE!

The event coincides with the grand opening of the Christmas in the Park drive-through Christmas lights tour, which also starts at 6:00 p.m.

New activities make this a very special year for the Karnival. Join Prancer and Vixen at the Reindeer Petting Zoo, and get your picture taken in an 1800’s sleigh! Jimmy Lee Jordan Band, followed by The Oklahoma City Bell Ringers, provide festive music while Chester the Clown walks around entertaining the young and young-at-heart!

Holiday-themed games and crafts return, including the making of reindeer food, as well as pictures with Santa. This year, Santa has a brand new house for a picture perfect portrait!

Irv Wagner’s Trombone Quartet returns to kick off the opening of Christmas in the Park with seasonal music from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Christmas in the Park opens at 6:00 p.m. on Nov. 17, then is open 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. nightly until New Year’s Eve. The tour features 100 acres of three interconnected city parks that are decorated top to bottom with 4 million Christmas lights and over 425 one-of-a-kind displays. The parks are Yukon City Park, Chisholm Trail Park and Freedom Trail.  Admission is free and donations, which help fund the tour, are merrily accepted.

Also planned for November 17 is the Chill Your Cheeks 5K Run, presented by Academy Sports and Outdoors, which begins at 5:00 p.m. at Chisholm Trail Park. It is a certified course sanctioned by USATF Oklahoma. More than 500 runners are expected at the festive race this year. Runners follow a course that takes them along area streets and ultimately through the beautiful illuminated Christmas in the Park lights while Christmas music is played. Runners are also encouraged to adorn themselves in Christmas attire for the “best decorated runner” costume contest.  The winner receives a $100 gift card from Red Coyote. Registration is available online at www.raceentry.com or contact Tim Rhodes at 405-350-8920 or [email protected].Other sponsors for Chill Your Cheeks are Yanda & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Yukon Optimist Sports Club, Bedlam Law, McBride Orthopedic Hospital, and True Sky Credit Union.
