Rock the Route 2019 Bands Announced
The Thursday night before Labor Day, across the darkened prairie of Yukon, expect to hear the thousands of fans crying out in enjoyment of one of Oklahoma’s favorite Red Dirt music festivals! Rock the Route, Yukon’s popular FREE concert event, returns on August 29. Presented by YNB, this year features Pat Green.
Celebrate the Mother Road with great quality music, food trucks, and plenty of fun activities for all ages in downtown Yukon from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Whether you’re a die-hard red dirt or country music fan or just looking for a fun night out with friends or family, Rock the Route brings something for everyone.
A three-time Grammy nominee, Pat Green has become a cultural force across the country that has sold out venues from Nokia Theater in Time Square and House of Blues Los Angeles to the Houston Astrodome in Texas. Respected by his peers, he has co-written with artists ranging from Willie Nelson and Chris Stapleton to Jewel and Rob Thomas.
Green’s explosive live shows have made him a fan favorite and a hot ticket landing tours with Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Dave Matthews Band. Named “the Springsteen of the South West” by People, Green has sold over 2 million records and has released 10 studio albums. He has a string of 15 hits on the Billboard Country Radio Chart and twelve #1 hits on the Texas Radio Chart including his latest single “Drinkin' Days,” which spent an impressive seven weeks at #1.
He has been praised by Esquire, NPR, Rolling Stone, People, Billboard, USA Today, American Songwriter, Paste, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Austin City Limits and Late Show With David Letterman. His album “What I’m For” made its debut at #2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart, which was followed by his critically acclaimed love letter to his fans “Home.”
Green is joined by special guest, Read Southall Band. In 2015, the local songwriting scene of Stillwater, OK brought together four like-minded individuals from completely different backgrounds who wanted nothing more than to play music. Read Southall became the talk of Oklahoma after the release of his acoustic album “Six String Sorrow” in 2015 that accumulated 8 million streams in just 3 years. In 2016, Read Southall decided that a group effort was the way to proceed with his fellow band mates and the Read Southall Band officially came to light. They released “Borrowed Time” in the spring of 2017, which featured singles like “Don’t Tell Me” and “Why”, which made it inside the Top 10 on several streaming charts. The Read Southall Band began to tour full time in 2018, leading to the release of “Live at Tower Theatre” in December. 2019 is set to be a huge year for the Oklahoma rock ’n' roll quartet as they tour all over the USA with several acts like Whiskey Myers and Koe Wetzel.
Opening for Rock the Route is Wight Lighters. In 2016, three Oklahoma natives came together with one common goal in mind—to create no-nonsense music with an appeal factor for the masses. Dwight Hamlin, Joniel Prouty and Derek Carothers released their first project as Wight Lighters in 2016 and they haven’t slowed down since. With guitar influences from The Rolling Stones and 80’s rock bands like Skid Row combined with the soulfulness of the likes of Eric Clapton, it’s no wonder this band has a sound that is getting them on show bills with a diverse list of acts, from Whiskey Myers to Chase Rice, and with that, the band is certainly living up to their goal. Their music has spread like wildfire as they’ve caught the attention of loyal music fans in their home state and beyond. The band is set to release their next project in the fall of 2019 which is certain to send their careers to the next level.
The concert, as well as many other fun activities, will take over Main Street between 4th and 5th Streets. Food trucks will be parked nearby to satisfy appetites, and Main Street Businesses will stay open later than usual. For the young and young at heart: enjoy face painting, a rock climbing wall, a mechanical bull, and other fun kids’ activities.
Rock the Route would not be possible without generous sponsors. The City of Yukon would like to thank additional sponsor, OG&E.
